چکیده
Volatile fingerprinting by Headspace-Solid-Phase Microextraction followed Direct Injection Mass Spectrometry (HS-SPME DIMS) has been assessed for the first time as an alternative approach to gas chromatographic methods GC-MS) rapid classification of honey botanical origin. In order fully evaluate potential SPME authentication, samples from different sources (eucalyptus, citrus, acacia, rosemary and honeydew) were analyzed both approaches using either carboxen/polydimethylsiloxane (C/PDMS) or polyacrylate fibers. These datasets further subjected supervised unsupervised chemometric techniques, including powerful machine learning such FreeViz, not previously applied this purpose. The best overall rate (99% success), outperforming that provided GC-MS data (98.25% was obtained when partial least squares-linear discriminant analysis mass spectral fingerprints gathered C/PDMS fiber. HS-SPME DIMS here optimized is shown advantageous in terms over (2 vs 50 min), well a reliable cost-efficient source authentication issues research food industry fields. • A novel fast min) method developed volatile fingerprinting. Honeys five origins successfully categorized. Carboxen/PDMS outperformed fiber clustering. PLS-LDA (99%) rate. SPME-Direct allowed accurate authentication.

Identification of Honey Volatile Components by Solid Phase Microextraction (spme) and Gas Chromatography/mass Spectrometry (gc/ms)
Volatile compounds in honey samples of different botanical origins were investigated. Solid phase microextraction (SPME) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) revealed a total of 86 compounds in the headspace of 4 types of honey – multifloral, heather, buckwheat and lime-honeydew. The chemical composition of the headspace was very diverse, owing to the presence of compounds from diff...
متن کاملThe Global Volatile Signature of Veal via Solid-phase Microextraction and Gas Chromatography-mass Spectrometry
The volatile composition of veal has yet to be reported and is one of the important factors determining meat character and quality. To identify the most important aroma compounds in veal from Holstein bull calves fed one of three diets, samples were subjected to solid-phase microextraction (SPME) combined with gas chromatography-quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Most of the important odoran...
متن کاملScreening for petrochemical contamination in seafood by headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
A headspace solid-phase microextraction gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPME GC-MS) method is described, to screen seafood for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) associated with petrochemical taint. VOCs are extracted from the headspace of heated sample homogenates by adsorption onto a SPME fiber and desorbed for analysis by GC-MS. Targeted compounds are determined semi-quantitatively usin...
متن کاملHeadspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for profiling free volatile compounds in Cabernet Sauvignon grapes and wines.
The complex aroma of wine is derived from many sources, with grape-derived components being responsible for the varietal character. The ability to monitor grape aroma compounds would allow for better understanding of how vineyard practices and winemaking processes influence the final volatile composition of the wine. Here, we describe a procedure using GC-MS combined with headspace solid-phase ...
متن کاملAnalysis of Rhioxma Curcumae Aeruginosae volatiles by solid-phase microextraction with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
In this paper, a headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) method was applied to analyse the volatile compounds in a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Rhioxma Curcumae Aeruginosae. SPME parameters such as fibers, extraction temperature, extraction time and desorption time were investigated. Thirty-five volatile compounds were separated and identified. Relative standard deviations (RSDs)...
